ABOUT THE ANNEX- important information!
The space is equipped with several electrical outlets and clamp lights. THE ANNEX does not have an HVAC system, thus interior conditions mimic the weather outside. For the safety and comfort of artists, staff, volunteers and gallery visitors, VAE normally schedules exhibitions in this space during the following months: March, April, May, September, October.
THE ANNEX is full of architectural features like metal studs, a skylight and uneven concrete floors. These are part of the nature of THE ANNEX, and we ask that artists/curators be flexible when working in this unique space.
City Market generously allows VAE the use of this space and reserves the right to discontinue VAE’s use of the space at any time. For this reason, VAE cannot guarantee any exhibit. We will do our best to notify artists ahead of time if the space becomes unavailable but are not responsible for any losses on the part of the artist, artist team or curator due to cancellation.

THE ANNEX is open to all emerging artists, artist teams and curators who are 18 years or older. Proposals must show promise and strong conceptual grounding. Preference will be given to experimental work, particularly installation, video and performance art. Applicants do NOT need to be VAE members, although the application fee is waived if at least one artist on the application is a current VAE member.

Applications are reviewed twice each year. Deadlines will be posted when applications are being accepted.
